Bowmore is one of the few whisky distilleries that still follows traditional methods, malting on the floor and turning the malt by hand. Nurtured by the pure, unpolluted river water of Islay and underground cellars adjacent to the sea, Bowmore single malt whisky is different from other distilleries on the island, showcasing a rich, sweet, yet refreshing and elegant style.
This Bowmore 40 Year Old, a limited-edition vintage, was distilled in 1978 and matured in bourbon and sherry casks, bottled at 48.7% ABV. The amber-colored spirit offers aromas of honeyed tropical fruit and caramel, while long aging has built up delicate notes of dark chocolate, tobacco, leather, and a touch of spice. On the palate, the tobacco flavor is accompanied by salty toffee, dark chocolate, and oak tannins. The island-style Islay peaty notes have softened and become more refined with age.
