Whisky Recycling Service | Free Door-to-Door Collection in Hong Kong & Macau + Auction-Grade Appraisal Process

WhiskyEra Whisky Recycling Service

The biggest difference between WhiskyEra's recycling process and that of our competitors is that we clearly explain every step of the valuation process. Customers can compare our written quote with other channels before deciding whether to proceed with the transaction, without any pressure or rush. Below are the complete process and appraisal methods; we no longer use unsubstantiated slogans like "highest market price". To directly check the covered brands, please refer to our Japanese Whisky Recycling and World Whisky Recycling pages.

Four-Step Recycling Process (Generally completed within 1–2 business days)

  1. Step One | Submit Information: Send photos of the whisky bottle via WhatsApp or WeChat, including the front label, back label, seal, outer box, and whisky certificate (if any). If unopened, please indicate the liquid level in the bottle neck. For detailed required information, please see Recycling FAQ Question 7.
  2. Step Two | Initial Quote: Our team will respond within 1 hour (during business hours) with a written initial valuation range, accompanied by 1–3 recent transaction records from international auction houses for reference.
  3. Step Three | Physical Verification: Customers in Hong Kong and Macau can schedule a door-to-door appointment for personal inspection by our principal or experienced appraiser; customers from other areas can send the whisky or choose to meet at designated cafes in Central or Causeway Bay.
  4. Step Four | Cash Settlement: If the physical item matches the provided information, immediate cash or instant transfer will be made on the spot. If the customer wishes to reconsider, the written quote is valid for 7 days, with no obligation to decide immediately.

Four-Dimensional Appraisal Method

Each bottle is evaluated based on four dimensions; prices are not determined by intuition:

  • Label Integrity: Discoloration, mold, or tears on the front or back label will directly affect the valuation. For early editions of Karuizawa and Macallan, the price difference due to label integrity can be as high as 30%.
  • Seal Condition: Whether the original tin seal, plastic film, or wax seal is intact. Slight leakage or looseness of the seal will result in a price reduction, and severe issues may affect acceptance by international auction houses.
  • Bottle Neck Fill Level: Natural evaporation (angel’s share) is normal, but for old whiskies from before 1990, if the liquid level is below the shoulder, a re-evaluation is needed.
  • Original Box, Certificate, and Accessories: The completeness of the box, certificate, ribbon, and medallion can significantly increase the valuation. For Japanese whiskies like Hibiki 30 and Yamazaki 25, the price difference due to complete accessories can be 15-20%.

Customers Suitable for This Service

  • Those who inherited whisky from elders and don't know its value or want to know if it's valuable.
  • Collectors looking to sell part of their collection to acquire new ones.
  • Those clearing out their liquor cabinet before moving abroad and needing a quick transaction.
  • Corporate clients who received business gifts years ago and wish to monetize them.

What We Don't Do

Honesty is key to long-term business. In the following situations, we will inform customers directly and will not reluctantly accept the goods:

  • No-age-statement (NAS) entry-level whiskies (e.g., Hibiki Harmony, Blossom Harmony, Yamazaki Distiller’s Reserve, Hakushu NAS) have high market circulation and limited secondary market premium. We recommend keeping them for personal enjoyment.
  • Bottles that are over 70% opened, especially if the "whisky flower" (bloom) has changed color or the liquid is turbid, usually have no recycling value.
  • Bottles valued over HKD 200,000 with unknown provenance require proof of purchase or previous ownership records; otherwise, they cannot be resold through international auction houses.
  • Counterfeits, re-labeled bottles, or bottles with added medallions will be identified on the spot and not accepted as genuine. Customers can retrieve their items for free after appraisal.
  • For old whiskies that are unopened but have over 50% label damage, the valuation may be lower than the customer's expectation. We advise careful consideration before deciding to sell.
