Seller Background

Mr Cheung is 42 and a Hong Kong architectural designer. He normally chooses tea over alcohol and rarely drinks spirits.

These two Springbanks were gifts from a client after he completed a large commercial design project a few years ago. He knew they were valuable, but did not drink whisky, so quietly placed them deep in his display cabinet.

Only while tidying at home last weekend did he suddenly remember them. 'If they are just sitting there, I would rather let someone who understands whisky appreciate them.' After comparing several buyers' reviews, Mr Cheung chose Whisky Era.

A Leading Name in Campbeltown

When Mr Cheung brought the bottles to our studio, even an appraiser accustomed to many rarities examined them closely.

First came Springbank 30-Year-Old, with its original wooden box. The engraving and distinctive S emblem were well preserved without moisture damage or distortion, a substantial positive factor for old whisky. Mr Cheung's home storage was also very suitable, with full fill levels and no obvious signs of unusual whisky loss.

The 35-year-old limited edition drew an even closer look. Label edges had no lifting or damage, printing was clear and sharp, and the gold LIMITED EDITION sticker below was intact. Condition like this is uncommon in the old-whisky market.

As a particularly representative Campbeltown distillery, Springbank's limited aged expressions have long been difficult to find worldwide. We explained both bottles' market scarcity to Mr Cheung in detail and provided a full scorecard.

Valuation Scorecard

Assessment item Score (out of 10) Explanation
Label completeness 9.5 / 10 Both front and back labels free of tears or water marks; the 35-year-old's limited-edition sticker perfectly preserved.
Fill level 9.5 / 10 High Fill, closures appearing intact and no obvious signs of unusual whisky loss. Angel's Share mainly means evaporation during cask maturation.
Seal/Closure 9.0 / 10 Gold foil sleeves undamaged and uncracked, without signs of leakage.
Accessories and boxes 9.0 / 10 Original wooden box structurally secure, with only extremely slight storage marks.
Overall market demand 10 / 10 Strong global demand and exceptional liquidity for limited aged Springbank.
Final assessment Premium Condition A top-tier offer, above the reference market average used at the time for this case. The article does not specify the comparison sample or period; future bottles still require individual appraisal. After both parties agreed, payment was settled in cash or by immediate transfer in person.

(This is Whisky Era's internal assessment standard, intended to provide a transparent valuation reference.)

Mr Cheung was surprised by the offer. 'I had no idea these bottles had appreciated so much.' The handover was relaxed and pleasant, with payment settled on site. As he left, he said Whisky Era would be the first place he thought of next time he had other collectibles.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How does Whisky Era's buyback process work?

Send front, back and closure photographs on WhatsApp for an initial quote. If both sides are satisfied, arrange a shop handover or home appraisal. After physical verification, payment is immediate, with the entire process completed in as little as 30 minutes.

2. What mainly affects Springbank buyback prices?

Age and edition, with greater premiums for limited releases; fill level; completeness of labels and seals; and the original wooden box. Both of Mr Cheung's bottles were excellent across these factors, allowing a top market offer.

3. Can I sell a bottle without its wooden box?

Certainly. Boxed examples usually achieve more, but we also buy well-preserved bottles alone at fair, strong market offers.

4. Is there an appraisal charge?

It is entirely free. Neither online valuations nor on-site appraisals involve fees, even if you ultimately choose not to sell.

5. How quickly can payment arrive?

After both sides confirm the price and sign the agreement, we support cash settlement on site or immediate bank transfer through FPS. Funds arrive within minutes, without delay.
