Whisky Buyback Service: From Photo Review to Handover

Whisky Era provides photo review, edition organisation, physical inspection and handover coordination for people considering the sale of unopened whisky. Initial notes state the bottle evidence and condition assumptions used; any acquisition decision and final quote follow the required physical and market checks.

Four-step process

  1. Submit photographs and basic details: provide the bottle names, quantity, location, labels, fill level, closure and packaging photographs.
  2. Receive a provisional review: the response records the likely edition, missing evidence, condition assumptions and valuation basis. It is not a final authentication or transaction commitment.
  3. Arrange physical inspection: if both parties wish to continue, the meeting method is agreed and each closure, fill level, label, box, certificate and provenance record is reviewed.
  4. Confirm handover: the physical findings, final amount, location, payment method and timing are agreed before handover. Any change is explained before either party proceeds.

What is checked for valuation?

The same name can describe different releases. Relevant fields include the complete product name, distillation or bottling year, age statement, capacity, alcohol strength, cask or bottle number, batch and release market, followed by the fill level, closure, labels, glass, box, certificate and accessories. A receipt or earlier auction record can support provenance but does not establish authenticity or value on its own.

Photographs to prepare

  • Full bottle and front label, with the bottle shape and text visible.
  • Back label, capacity, alcohol strength, import details, batch code and barcode.
  • Neck, seal, stopper and fill level, with close-ups of leakage or damage.
  • Base, cask or bottle number, limited-edition number, box and certificate.
  • For several bottles, one group image followed by numbered detail images.

Use the whisky buyback FAQ, Japanese whisky collection and world-whisky collection to check names before submission.

Location, fees and timing

Whether an in-person review is practical, which Hong Kong or Macau locations can be considered, and whether any costs apply depend on the quantity, location and arrangements. Appointment timing, inspection duration and payment method are confirmed separately; the site does not promise one schedule, cost structure or payment method for every enquiry.

How market evidence is used

Comparable records should match the edition, capacity, alcohol strength, packaging and condition. Retail asks, auction estimates, hammer prices, buyer-inclusive results and local offers remain separate; dates, regions, currencies and fees must be stated.

Sources and use

Last reviewed: 15 July 2026. The following sources provide edition or market context only and do not imply that Whisky Era will acquire a bottle at an auction figure.

Conditions to disclose

State whether a bottle has been opened, resealed or leaked, whether labels or numbers are unclear, whether packaging does not match, or whether provenance remains uncertain. These facts may change the review method and can make some bottles unsuitable for acquisition.
