A Decision About Space and a New Stage of Life

Mr Chan in Kau To Shan, Sha Tin, is an experienced civil engineer. His work demands precision and careful selection. Years ago, through business dealings and the early Japanese whisky boom, he bought two exceptional Suntory limited releases: Hibiki 17 Phoenix and Hibiki 21 Mount Fuji. They have been carefully kept in a dark, temperature-controlled living-room display cabinet.

Market movements do not prompt the sale; a warm family change does. His wife is expecting their first baby. To create a safe nursery and play space, the large glass whisky cabinet must go. Rather than pile valuable glass bottles elsewhere and risk knocks, leaks or loss of temperature control, he chooses a professional sale before the birth, turning both treasures into a fund for the child's growth.

Professional On-Site Assessment and Exceptional Condition Checks

Multi-angle high-resolution WhatsApp photographs allow a transparent reference-price range within 15 minutes. Once he agrees to proceed, our senior appraiser visits that afternoon.

Secondary-market standards for limited artistic bottles are demanding. The specialist focuses on:

  • Maki-e and gold decoration: Neither bottle's fired gold decoration shows wear, peeling or fingerprint-related oxidation.
  • Capsules and security details: Original shrink capsules unopened; UV security features, embossed seals and laser marks clearly identifiable, supporting a combined assessment of signs of refilling or refurbishment.
  • Fill level and liquid: Full High Fill levels, with clear liquid in the light and no abnormal crystals or obvious loss of whisky visible.
  • Complete original accessories: Both include original double-layer outer packaging, display cases and booklets, in collectible condition.

Whisky Buyback FAQ

Q 1: Can you buy whisky with slight dampness or dents in its box?
Yes. Packaging condition may slightly reduce auction-level or particular limited-release prices, such as Mount Fuji editions. An intact bottle, capsule and normal fill still support high buyback value.

Q 2: How can I recognise evaporation in unopened whisky?
Observe the level. High Fill / Neck Fill needs comparison with the normal original fill height of the same edition. A level below the shoulder, sticky closure deposits or crystallisation may indicate loss of whisky or leakage. The closure, liquid and provenance still need checks. We adjust objectively for the actual remaining liquid rather than rejecting the bottle outright.

Q 3: Are handling or travel fees charged for home buyback?
Completely free. Whisky Era offers free visiting valuation and purchase across Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories. No handling or travel fee applies even if no sale is agreed.

Q 4: How does valuation work, and how soon can I receive payment?
Send high-resolution front, capsule, fill and packaging photographs through WhatsApp or WeChat. Current-market offers normally follow within 15 minutes. Once agreed, same-day visits can be arranged at the earliest. We inspect on site and pay in cash or by FPS, completing handover after you confirm actual receipt of payment.

Q 5: Which spirits do you buy besides Suntory Hibiki, Yamazaki and Hakushu?
We professionally buy leading Scottish and Japanese whiskies such as Macallan, Bowmore and Karuizawa, well-known cognac including Louis XIII and Richard Hennessy, and other exceptional fine drinks. Single bottles, original cases and bulk inherited collections are welcome.
