WhatsApp photo quoteA Surprise in an Older Cabinet: Mr Chan's Clear-Out
Mr Chan is a first-generation whisky enthusiast in Sha Tin who follows a minimalist lifestyle after retirement. During his annual whole-home clean, he decides to clear an overflowing storeroom and old drinks cabinet.
'They have stayed there for ten or twenty years. With high blood pressure, I rarely drink spirits. Turning them into cash by passing them to experts who truly understand them is more practical than dust and worries about dampness or evaporation,' he says.
He contacts us through WhatsApp with photographs. Our appraiser immediately recognises valuable secondary-market treasures: a bottle of The Macallan 18 Year Old, distilled in 1993, with purple carton, and two classic versions of The Macallan 12 Year Old in original wooden cases (750ml / 43%).
Professional Assessment and Appraisal Record
An initial price range follows within 10 minutes. We agree to inspect the bottles downstairs at his Sha Tin residential building that afternoon.
On-site checks:
-
Fill and Ullage: All three retain high Into Neck levels, with intact capsules and no leakage.
-
Packaging and Label Condition: The 18 Year Old purple carton and 12 Year Old wooden cases show only very slight storage marks, with good overall preservation. Label lettering is clear and original green security labels intact.
-
Liquid Clarity: Rich amber liquid is clear, without impurities or sediment.
After confirming details, we pay in full through FPS. Handover takes only 15 minutes.

Whisky Buyback FAQ
Q 1: Can you buy whisky without packaging, or with a damaged box?
Yes. Original packaging, especially limited or wooden cases, improves collectibility. Core value remains in the bottle, liquid level and complete closure. Bottles alone also receive generous offers at that day's market price.
Q 2: How can I recognise evaporation or liquid loss?
Check the liquid height. High Neck / Into Neck levels in unopened whisky need comparison with the normal original fill height of the same edition. If the level has fallen to the shoulder, the closure and liquid still need checks, and any deduction is assessed according to the physical condition.
Q 3: Is a receipt or invoice required for older whisky?
No. Our professional team assesses bottle codes, closure construction, label printing and security marks together, without requiring the original invoice.
Q 4: Will online and final offers differ substantially?
No. Clear front, back, closure and level photographs on WhatsApp/WeChat allow an accurate range. If the bottles match, we will never lower the offer unfairly on site.
Q 5: Which Hong Kong areas can receive visiting handover?
All districts, including Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the New Territories and locations along major MTR lines. Free specialist visiting handover protects privacy and safety.
