World Whisky Valuation Guide: Brands and Editions

World whisky includes distillery and independent bottlings, age statements, vintages, single casks, regular ranges and limited presentations. Bottler, vintage, capacity or market differences can identify separate editions, so records should never be grouped by distillery name alone.

Separate distillery and independent bottlings

Record the distillery, bottler, product line, distillation and bottling years, age statement, cask description, capacity, alcohol strength, cask number and bottle number. An independent bottling is not directly comparable with a distillery's standard release simply because the spirit came from the same site.

Packaging, condition and provenance

Photograph the closure, fill level, labels, base, box, certificate and accessories, and disclose moisture, leakage, fading, missing pieces or mismatched packaging. Provenance documents can add context but do not establish authenticity or value on their own.

Comparable records still need to match the bottler, edition, capacity, alcohol strength, packaging, condition, date, region, currency and fee basis.
