Yoichi 20 Year Old: The Pinnacle of the Yoichi Age Statement Series
The 20-year-old expression is the top tier of the Yoichi age statement series, with its auction prices consistently commanding several times more than the 15-year-old.
Yoichi Brand and Market Background
The Yoichi Distillery was founded by Masataka Taketsuru in Hokkaido, chosen for its climate similar to the Scottish Highlands. Yoichi continues to use traditional coal-fired distillation, making it one of the very few distilleries in the world still employing this process.
Yoichi's age-statement whiskies were progressively discontinued starting in 2015, leading to a shrinking supply in the secondary market. The auction prices for rare versions like Yoichi 20 Year Old and Yoichi 1987 have significantly risen in recent years.
The 20-year maturation period allows the liquid to fully absorb wood flavors while retaining sufficient original spirit character, making it considered a "golden age range" by many collectors.

Key Authentication Points for This Version
The gold rim on the 20-year-old label is slightly wider than on the 15-year-old. The molded year at the bottom of the bottle is a key verification point.
General authentication process: Fill level (neck is ideal), health of cork or screw cap, print quality of the label, engraved bottle number, completeness of original wooden box and certificate. If any of these are missing, the valuation will be discounted accordingly, but it can still be accepted.
Yoichi's Market Depth
Nikka's Yoichi Distillery, located in Hokkaido, is Japan's second-oldest whisky distillery. Since 2015, its regular age statement series has been progressively discontinued, leading to strengthening secondary market prices.
