Karuizawa Samurai 30YO #7: The 7th bottle in the Samurai Series, a key component of the latter part of the collection

The label features a samurai against a background of falling cherry blossoms, with the mildest color palette. #7 to #9 are considered by collectors as the "latter three-bottle run," with the entire lot commanding an additional premium when valued together.

Karuizawa Brand and Market Background

Limited edition label designs such as the Geisha Series and Noh Series integrate traditional Japanese art, giving Karuizawa a dual collection status as both a "spirit + artwork."

Karuizawa is currently one of the brands with the highest single-bottle transaction prices in the global whisky auction market. Some rare single casks have fetched over seven-figure HKD at Bonhams and Sotheby's.

During the maturation of high-aged whiskies (30 years and older), approximately 2-4% of the liquid evaporates each year due to "Angel's Share." This means that the final bottled liquid is only a fraction of what was originally filled into the cask – the older the age, the greater the loss, and the higher the rarity.

Single Cask bottling means that each bottle of liquid comes from the same oak barrel. The bottle usually indicates the cask number, distillation year, bottling year, and the number of bottles produced. The scarcity of single casks lies in the fact that once a cask is sold out, the identical liquid will no longer exist.

#7 Authentication Key Points

The printing layers of the cherry blossom petals on #7 are the main verification point; counterfeits often print petals as single color blocks. Water level (neck position is ideal), health of the cork or screw cap, printing layers of the label, engraved bottle number, completeness of the original wooden box and certificate. If any of these are missing, the valuation will be discounted accordingly but still accepted.

Market Depth of the Samurai Series

After the Karuizawa Distillery ceased production in 2000, the remaining cask-strength liquid was gradually bottled as single casks. The "Samurai" series is one of the collections with the most significant collector premiums – 30 years old, a complete set of 10 bottles, each with an independent samurai Ukiyo-e theme.

Public auction records show that the individual transaction range for each Samurai series bottle far exceeds that of regular Karuizawa editions of the same age statement.
