Karuizawa Samurai 30YO #10: The Final Chapter of the Samurai Series #10, the last bottle to complete the set

The samurai on the label, armored and holding his head high, brings the entire composition to a close. As the final bottle, #10 is widely recognized as the highest-priced single bottle in the Samurai series, and collectors are most eager to bid on it as a grand finale.

Karuizawa Brand and Market Background

Limited edition label designs such as the Geisha Series and Noh Series incorporate traditional Japanese art, positioning Karuizawa as both a "wine + artwork" for collectors.

Karuizawa is currently one of the brands with the highest single-bottle transaction prices in the global whisky auction market. Some rare single casks have fetched over seven-figure HKD at Bonhams and Sotheby's.

During the maturation of high-aged spirits (30 years or more), approximately 2-4% of the liquid evaporates each year due to "Angel's Share." This means that the final bottled liquid is only a fraction of what was initially put into the cask—the longer the age, the greater the loss, and the higher the rarity.

Single Cask bottling means that every bottle of liquid comes from the same oak cask. The bottle usually indicates the cask number, distillation year, bottling year, and the number of bottles yielded. The rarity of a single cask lies in the fact that once that cask is sold out, the exact same liquid will no longer exist.

#10 Authentication Focus

The full armor printing on the samurai of #10 is the most complex, with each scale having an independent shadow, making it the easiest place for fakes to be exposed. Factors include the fill level (neck position is ideal), health of the cork or screw cap, layering of the label printing, engraved bottle number, and completeness of the original wooden box and certificate. If any of these are missing, the estimated value will be discounted accordingly, but it can still be collected.

Market Depth of the Samurai Series

After the Karuizawa distillery ceased production in 2000, the remaining original cask liquid was progressively bottled as single casks. The "Samurai" series is one of the sets that commands the most significant premium from collectors—30 years old, a complete set of 10 bottles, each with a unique samurai ukiyo-e theme.

Asian auction houses have long regarded the Samurai series as the pinnacle representative of discontinued Japanese whisky, and the transaction price receives attention every time it appears.
