Recycling Hakushu Hakushu

At 700 meters above sea level, at the foot of the Southern Alps, and with the soft water of Ojira River, the flavor DNA of Hakushu is written in its geography. If Yamazaki represents Suntory's sweet sherry notes, Hakushu is the "forest-like" whisky with notes of grass, mint, and light smoke.

In 2018, Hakushu 12 Year Old was officially discontinued, and even the NAS Distiller's Reserve was out of stock for a period. Prices in the secondary market have seen the fastest increase among Japanese whiskies. Collectors who know their whisky often collect all three – Hakushu, Yamazaki, and Hibiki – to complete their Suntory collection.

Hakushu New vs. Old Version: How to differentiate?

The most straightforward method: look at the color of the bottle label. The "dark greenish label" from before the 2018 discontinuation is the old version; the colors used for versions re-released afterwards are lighter. There are also differences in the Japanese text on the back label. The old version generally commands a 15–30% higher resale price.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Hakushu 12 Year Old still available?
Limited supplies are occasionally reinstated in the Japanese market, but the secondary market in Hong Kong has very little circulation. We are constantly purchasing, and welcome quotes for both new and old versions.

Is Hakushu NAS worth collecting?
The appreciation potential for NAS itself is limited, but we will offer an increased price for full cases (6 bottles).

Which has a higher resale value, Hakushu or Yamazaki?
Comparing the same vintages, Yamazaki is usually slightly higher (due to the sherry cask premium effect), but the gap for Hakushu 12 Year Old has narrowed because it was discontinued for a longer period and has less re-released volume. For details, please refer to the current market trends.
