Why Hibiki 35 Year Old 14th-Gen Kakiemon: The Collaboration Edition is Extremely Rare

"Kakiemon" is one of Japan's most iconic family kilns for Arita ware, founded in the early Edo period by Kakiemon I Sakaida. It is renowned for its "nigoshide" milky white porcelain and "akae" overglaze red enamel. The family lineage has been passed down through fifteen generations, with the 12th and 14th generations recognized by the Japanese government as "Living National Treasures" (Holders of Important Intangible Cultural Properties). This Hibiki 35-year-old was launched in collaboration between Suntory and the Kakiemon family, with the bottle hand-painted by master artisans from the Living National Treasure family. Its existing quantity is extremely low, and its market visibility is scarce. The key to its rarity lies here: 35-year-old high-aged whisky is already rare, and adding a non-mass-produced, hand-painted porcelain bottle by a master makes every transaction a rare record.

Hibiki 35 Year Old 14th-Gen Kakiemon Brand Context and Resale Value

Hibiki is Suntory's flagship blended whisky, not a single malt. Its body is blended from malt whiskies from Yamazaki and Hakushu, combined with grain whisky from Chita. The special feature of this Kakiemon collaboration edition is that it spans two collector circles simultaneously—it is both a top-tier aged blended whisky and a ceramic artwork by a Living National Treasure family. Therefore, its buyer community is broader than that of regular limited editions. High-aged whiskies in casks lose approximately 2% to 4% annually due to the "Angel's Share," resulting in significant loss over 35 years. Coupled with the production limitations of family hand-painting, supply will only become tighter.
