Hanyu Ichiro's Buyback

Hanyu is most famous for its Ichiro's Malt Card Series poker cards. With 52 main cards, plus the Joker and King of Jokers, there are 54 unique designs in total. Each card has its own cask number, vintage, and story, making it one of the most recognizable series in the history of Japanese whisky auctions.

The Hanyu distillery ceased production in 2000, and the quantity of old stock is limited. Besides the Card Series, other Hanyu releases such as single casks, Kyuryu, Noh series, The Game, and Color Joker editions require careful inspection of bottle numbers, fill levels, box certificates, and provenance.

Do individual poker cards also have buyback value?

Yes. The valuation methods differ for single cards, combinations of a few cards, Jokers, high-demand cards like A/K/Q/J, or even complete sets. Please photograph the front label, back label, bottle number, box certificate, and fill level. If you have purchase records or auction provenance, please provide them as well.

Which series should Hanyu be compared with?

Hanyu is usually discussed in the same collector tier as Chichibu and Karuizawa. All three are rare Japanese whiskies, but buyer preferences vary, so we provide quotes based on the specific edition rather than just the brand.

Hanyu quotes will first differentiate between individual cards, Jokers, high-demand cards, and complete sets. If the same batch also includes old Suntory editions, they can be appraised separately from Yamazaki and Hibiki. Then, we will refer to the recent demand in the Hot Whisky buyback List to determine whether to sell the entire batch or individual bottles.
