Why is Karuizawa so valuable to collectors?
On December 31, 2000, the company decided to cease production in Karuizawa, and the factory ceased operations. In 2016, the factory was razed to the ground, and all the facilities within were auctioned off. The remaining Karuizawa whisky on the market is becoming increasingly scarce, meaning that each bottle consumed increases its value. Coupled with the already limited production, the annual news of auctions, and speculation from various parties, the price continues to rise.
