Yamazaki Limited Edition 2017: 2017 Annual Limited Batch

Yamazaki Limited Edition 2017 is one of the earlier annual releases in the LE series. It has been over 5 years since its release, and the quantity available in the market has significantly decreased. Due to the age of early LE releases, their market circulation is noticeably less than more recent versions.

Yamazaki Brand and Market Background

The Yamazaki Distillery houses six pairs of copper pot stills of varying shapes, from straight-necked to spherical, which is extremely rare for a single distillery, allowing for a diverse range of whisky styles.

Since the Yamazaki 12 Year Old won its first gold medal at the ISC in 2003, international market demand for the Yamazaki series has continued to rise. In 2014, the Yamazaki Single Malt Sherry Cask was named "World's Best Whisky" by Jim Murray, further boosting its price and popularity.

Single Cask bottling means that each bottle's liquid comes from a single oak barrel. The bottle usually indicates the cask number, distillation year, bottling year, and quantity produced. The scarcity of single casks lies in the fact that once a cask is sold out, the exact same liquid will no longer exist.

The market pricing logic for limited editions differs from regular releases: in addition to the quality of the liquid, packaging design, release quantity, and commemorative significance are all factored into the valuation. The completeness of accessories (original box, certificate, numbered card, etc.) particularly affects the final transaction price.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Is the Limited Edition series released annually?

A: Suntory generally releases it annually in recent years, but it's not guaranteed to be a yearly Limited Edition, nor does it mean the same theme will continue. Each year's theme and blended whisky composition are designed independently.

Q: Is there a premium for collecting all previous Limited Edition releases?

A: Yes, for series collectors it is significant. Collecting all LEs over the years creates a complete timeline of limited edition Japanese whiskies, possessing both academic and artistic value.
