Port Ellen distillery closed in 1983. For many years, the old whisky reserves have been released through official Annual Releases and a small number of independent bottlings. Even with the distillery reopening in 2024, the old whisky reserves from before 1983 will remain a separate market, not to be confused with new spirits.

Official Annual Releases 1 to 17, old bottlings distilled in the 1970s, Rare Malts, independent single cask bottlings, and Feis Ile special editions are the most frequently priced types of Port Ellen. For high-value versions, the box certificate, bottle number, fill level, and provenance should be checked.

Why is there still demand for Port Ellen?

Its Islay peat style, discontinued status, and Diageo's official annual releases have kept Port Ellen on collectors' radars for a long time. It often appears in private collections alongside other scarce Scotch whiskies like Bowmore and Springbank.

What to photograph before valuation?

Please photograph the front label, back label, bottle neck, fill level, box certificate, and any bottle number details. Different editions of Annual Releases vary greatly, so please do not just send a distant shot of the bottle.

Port Ellen will be evaluated separately based on official annual editions, Rare Malts, and independent bottlings. If you have other world whiskies, scarce whiskies, or Macallan in the same batch, you can send photos of those as well. We will value each bottle individually and provide an actual achievable price range based on recent market conditions.
